Treatment of speech developmental delay (stage 10)
Mom Anastasia, pediatrician, son Lev 6.5 y.o Dnipro Ukraine

Mom Anastasia, pediatrician, son Lev 6.5 years old. Completed stage 10. I noticed that something was wrong with my son when he was 1.5 years old, when the child closed up and stopped responding to his name, before that time he was the most ordinary boy, played, looked into the eyes, had his first words, everything like everyone else. At 2.3 we went to neurologists, speech therapists. I knew about Professor Vagif Rakhmanov since my student years, but for me, this was the highest authority, like only the most difficult go to the professor, this is not about my son. From 2.3 we studied with a speech therapist, but it was of little use. And the problems became more and more acute with age and are visible to the naked eye. I, as a mother and as a doctor, reproach myself very much for the fact that we did not contact the professor at 2.3, because it is important to start treatment as early as possible, and I turned out to be completely objective for my son. Before the treatment, he did not respond well to his name, did not look into the eyes, constantly “pricked” – sang his own melody (stimming), did not involve in the game, there was echolalia and zero understanding of speech, walked around in a diaper, hid when he pooped, the mere sight of the potty would cause hysterics. He was like in a shell, was not interested in other children, there were no role-playing games, was not afraid to lose sight of his parents, ran away, did not get bored when he did not see his relatives for a long time. After the first stage, the pointing gesture strengthened, he began to look into the eyes more, began to answer yes / no. He began to involve his parents in the game. He stopped being afraid of the potty, but did not go himself, he had to be sat down.

In the spring of 22, we were supposed to go to the second stage, but the war made its adjustments, I went with my son to Poland, it was a very difficult road (who survived the migration in the first days of the war, will understand me, people were traveling in the aisles, there were 11 people in a compartment, 15 hours stood in the middle of a field in a train packed with people, it was impossible to even get out of the car, women and children slept sitting in the aisle and vestibule, it was terrible, Lev cried and screamed, switched off from fatigue, and then cried again) after we lived in a wonderful Polish family, but for Lev it was still a huge stress, we received a big rollback, he was constantly hysterical, stopped talking, diapers returned again, behaved inappropriately in front of strangers. I worked as a doctor’s assistant in Poland. For me it was also a shock, I suffered from migraines, 1-2 times a week terrible headaches with vomiting, visual impairment and a physical aura, which no medications help. In June 22, we decided to return, we urgently needed treatment. After the 2nd stage, everything gradually returned to normal, my son began to say words “on topic”, began to go to the potty himself, play role-playing games, became calmer.

I returned to my job in Dnipro, but migraines and potty pains did not allow me to work and live normally. I was irritable and apathetic. At the 3rd stage, I took a vacation and was treated together with my son. After the 3rd stage, my son is absolutely independent in terms of toilet, goes to the toilet (pees standing up), expressive gestures appeared (hand to mouth in surprise), began to play with different toys, games became more interesting, with imagination, simple sentences of everyday life with 2-3 words appeared. I also felt much better, I gained strength, mood and migraines almost disappeared. After finishing stage 4, Lev began to build more complex sentences (for example: I don’t want to sleep, I want to play). It became possible to negotiate with him. He himself began to initiate a conversation, demanded more attention to himself, began to say the letter Ш in words, his speech became clearer. After stage 5, Lev showed us that he is no longer the “convenient and uninitiative” one, but very active, mischievous and a little bit of a hooligan 😅 he was constantly doing something weird: he didn’t give the cat any peace, he cut a houseplant with scissors, flooded the bathroom, began to put a chair, climb onto the upper shelves to get candy for himself, was cunning, began to be interested in drawing, paints, put together 60-piece puzzles! He began to sleep all night without waking up. I also underwent treatment again, now the kettle pains do not bother me, I forgot what it is like to drink 2 tablets of painkillers, there are no migraines, I have strength and mood!

At stage 6, my mother underwent treatment together with Levaya, she had severe kettle pains, strong irritability, irascibility and fatigue, she slept poorly and was in a bad mood. After 10 days of treatment, she felt much better, the kettle boils and does not hurt, she returned home, stopped arguing with her dad, began to sleep well and in general began to look better. After the stage, Lev began to build more complex and correct sentences, he is very cunning, he begins to argue with us and prove his point, I began to force him to write in a notebook. After stage 7-9, little by little more self-service was added (he can heat up food in the microwave, make toast from bread, pour from a bottle, zip up a zipper, make cereal with milk) fantasizes, builds logical sentences, tells what he sees in the pictures, tries to generalize. Comes home from kindergarten and tells who he played, what he did. Goes swimming, studies in groups with other children, swims well, dives with pleasure, helps me in the kitchen, cuts salad, clears dishes, orders what he will eat and what gifts he wants, chooses clothes and dresses himself, tries to write words by ear, loves to play with children, wants to communicate with them, can agree on a joint game.

Now we have completed stage 10. Lev writes well in a notebook, can count, understands the meaning of more less, fine motor skills have improved, reads by syllables, plays checkers, assembles Lego himself. Watches full-length cartoons, comments on them, “roots” for the cartoon characters.

I want to say a huge thank you to all the employees of the institute! 🤍
More to come 🤍 with respect, mom pediatrician.
