Delayed Speech and Language Development (4 stages)

Matvey came for treatment at the age of 3.9 y.o, we have diagnosed with the Delayed Speech and Language Development. We have completed the 1st course is the 4 stages and now Matvey is 5 years old. The main problem at that time was poor understanding and lack of speech. The dream at night involved waking up, screaming and crying, as if he had dreamed something bad, it had been like this since birth, he calmed him down and fell asleep again. There was no eye contact, you had to constantly speak loudly to him to pay attention. Up to 2 years they thought there might be a hearing problem, they checked everything they could, the doctor’s report was 100% hearing. He wasn’t interested in books, didn’t listen when I read them, took them out of my hands and tore them. I had no contact with the children on the playground and did not pay attention to them. There is no instinct of self-preservation either at home or on the street. In stores, hysterics if you don’t take him something sweet, you can’t negotiate, he can’t persuade him – he doesn’t hear, here manipulation by screaming is already possible. Very strong vocalization, a throat cry, a squeak accompanies him throughout the day, no matter what he does, the house is constantly noisy, only during his lunchtime nap for a couple of hours there was perfect silence. My husband and I didn’t even want to turn on the TV, how much is this for us it was very valuable to have a little mental rest. His large and fine motor skills were well developed. Selectivity in food, eats certain foods, but if forced to eat something else, looking at this food causes a gag reflex. He didn’t eat on his own, I fed him not because he didn’t know how, he just didn’t want to, she made him get up and leave, he could go a day without eating, his heart was breaking, she sat down and fed him. But he eats a large jar of yoghurt with a bun himself, because it’s sweet. Now this problem still exists. From an early age we were given the phone cartoons on YouTube from the age of 1.5 years, after stage 1 we don’t show cartoons, we downloaded a lot of educational games, until stage 2 we only played games. Before the 2nd stage, they decided to ban it and hid the phone, thinking it would cry, look for it – not at all. Nowadays it’s extremely rare that we can give a phone with certain educational cartoons, they are downloaded and there are simply no others in the phone.

What we achieved in 4 stages:

1. Night awakenings are gone, he falls asleep at 23.00 and wakes up at 9.00-10.00.
2. Full understanding of speech at the everyday level.
3. Responses to your name and comes when you call.
4. We have a book collection and they are all intact, he looks at pictures, listens very carefully to fairy tales and poems, knows some and repeats them with me. Can repeat any word, but sentences are more difficult for now.
5. In stores he began to behave more calmly, he understands the word “no”, before he would have yelled at the whole store and fell on the floor that he was denied something, but now he puts the necessary products into the cart and places them at the checkout.
6. An interest in the children on the playground has appeared, he can approach the child to extend his hand, he can run after him if someone wants, but since he does not speak when children approach him, they are not interested in him.
7. Eye contact has appeared, but the weak cannot look for long. He listens to what I say, but his eyes dart. It’s hard to concentrate, I don’t have the perseverance.
8. Knows the entire alphabet by heart and can sort out from A to Z from memory without making mistakes, and counts to 10 and names the numbers quite clearly. And he can even write them all. We didn’t teach him this. I started copying words from books.

Draws with paints, sculpts from plasticine. He may already ask for something at the everyday level. Or say a few words what he wants. There are no questions or suggestions yet, but we are waiting patiently 🙏

My neurosis has passed, I don’t know how it works, but it’s almost impossible to make me lose my temper. My husband and I lost apathy, depression, and despondency. Of course, I can’t help but rejoice at my son’s improvements, which have become much more tolerable. Overall we are very pleased with the results! Further only bigger and better!
