Treatment of Down's syndrome, aphasia
mother Iryna, Yana 16 y.o

Hello everyone. I’m Iryna, candidate of sciences, PhD student, daughter Yana 16 y.o with Down syndrome, aphasia. Longread is out 😂

11 families are currently receiving treatment from Professor Rakhmanov Vagif Mamedovych in sunny Sicily, and we are extremely happy to be among them, because what we miss most in forced emigration is the opportunity to undergo the next stage of treatment from our dear doctor. We are extremely grateful that he agrees to do field courses just for us! Treatment, sea, sun… this is the best start to the new school year that you can imagine.

… This war is not the only one in the lives of families of children with disabilities. The first started from the moment of diagnosis. In our case – from the offer to give up the daughter in the maternity hospital. With constant battles for every skill, for every step.

As Lewis Carroll wrote: “You have to run with all your legs to stay in place. To get to another place, you have to run twice as fast.” Until the age of 8.5 years, we lost this war on all fronts: without speech, without a pointing gesture, she did not respond to her name for a long time, it was necessary to repeat every request many times, severe addiction to gadgets, obsessive movements and fears. You won’t remember everything. And all this with constant therapy and systematic classes.

But this war changed its course when we got to the honored professor, doctor of family psychiatry and psychology Vagif Mamedovych Rakhmanov. We started to regain our positions little by little.

On the 5th day of treatment, a pointing gesture appeared, the child’s numerous fears began to disappear one by one, and development began. Today we have a wonderful 16-year-old student of the 8th grade of a regular school, who understands absolutely everything, is interested in many things, studies well, writes competently in three languages and makes interesting conclusions that should probably be published 😄. From the latter: “Love is when you really want happiness for the person dear to you and you are in this happiness!”. Yana, 16 years old, has Down syndrome. It is interesting that a typical teenager will answer the question “What is love?”.

8 years of life before Professor Rakhmanov and 8 years with his treatment are heaven and earth. The light at the end of the tunnel appeared. And today this war for the health and happiness of the daughter is not over, but the emphasis has changed.

The vast majority of battles have to be fought with other people who for some reason believe that such children do not need to be taught (why, because they will not become tax payers?!) or treated. That is, the problems are not with the child, but with those adults who should help! Against this background, I appreciate even more our dear Professor, who accepts children even on his vacation.

Today, 11 families from six countries are undergoing treatment, including families of immigrants, a total of 38 patients. This is a lot of hope and new successes. It’s a well-spent time and a feeling that you really did EVERYTHING for your child.

Among the professor’s grateful patients are myself, my mother, and my eldest daughter. Diseases disappear, the will to live, a smile, faith, hope and love return. Many thanks to our dear Professor!
