The time has come for our second story. Son Evan, our youngest, came to the professor at 4.2 y.o. We were diagnosed with autism at 2.5 y.o. Our pediatrician noticed the child’s abnormal behavior during the visit and advised him to see a psychologist. Considering that it was 2021 and apparently still a pandemic period, we were diagnosed almost in absentia. As I wrote earlier, my eldest son and I were undergoing treatment 10 years ago.
Why they didn’t immediately turn to the professor for help, I can’t imagine. The first months I was simply in a state of abstraction, what should we do now and how to help my son get out of this state. And then the war started and it was scary to go to Ukraine. So we lost precious time.
And so in September we passed the first stage. We arrived with minimal eye contact. Evan freaked out and went into hysterics for any reason, if he didn’t like something or didn’t get something. He bit very hard, rarely responded to his name, had zero understanding of spoken speech, or after 10-15 times he could do what was asked, lack of speech. We had no problems sleeping, we had a pointing gesture, we have been friends with the toilet since we were 2 years old.

And this is how our culinary classes take place in the garden. 😊
After the first three days of treatment, it was already clear that he became calmer and more often began to respond to my commands, bring, serve, etc. He really likes public transport, he would ride all day long. And I began to be able to convey to him that we need to get to a certain stop, and not to the first closest one, to get on the bus that we need, and not the one that he wants, but before it was a shout throughout the entire street. There were also hysterics, but we managed to calm him down faster and distract his attention than before. Around day 10, I noticed that he responded to his name even when strangers called him. My grandmother was with us, she also began to notice positive changes during the treatment process.
In the sensory room, he learned to spin pedals and show interest in other children on the playground. I was surprised when, returning home, he sat on the train near the window for about 40 minutes, watched what was happening outside the window and reacted to the change in the picture in front of him.
10 days passed after our return, and upon arriving home the very next day, Evan returned to our daily routine, for him this is kindergarten. He attends a special group.
In kindergarten, teachers noted his perseverance in classes and calmer behavior. Also, quite by accident, I found out that he said NO to one of the questions. There are more sounds and emotions during games. It’s clear from him that he wants to say something, but he still can’t. But everything has its time. Depending on his mood, he can shake his head Yes or No. Started playing with our middle son. Previously, Evan completely ignored him, and because of his loud reactions and screams, the middle one also did not very often show a desire to play with him. Today, Evan points out who is who in the family if you ask him. The atmosphere between the brothers improves, they play together, go hand in hand to kindergarten and school. We do not stop at these achievements, only forward and only more.
As for me, my general condition has improved, my allergies have gone away, although previously, while living in Ukraine, I had pills in my purse from May to October and nothing helped. I forgot about the boiler pain, my sleep improved.
Many thanks to all the institute staff and Vagif Mamedovich.
We are looking forward to our next meeting.
